600 ELO to European Competition to League of Legends coaching: My Journey
The Early Struggle
I began playing League in 2012 at 600 ELO - that's about Iron 4 in today's system. Like all of us, I spent a lot of time completely stuck, grinding games while alternating between hopeful and mad, but genuinely loving the game despite the struggle.
I remember it was for about a year where I was trying to understand what I was doing wrong. The mental side was tough - the tilt, every loss streak felt like I could NEVER get back to where I was before, enemy champions feeling broken, overall the classic cycle of hope and disappointment that comes with being hardstuck.
Beginning To Find My Way
I realised it was my mentality that had to change, from shifting blame to teammates to taking accountability and being more self-focused. If I am stuck, I thought, it is my own gameplay that needs to improve.
Took me some time and a lot of trial and error, playing all day pretty much every day for about 2 years. I believe I had over 4000 League games at that point, gradually improving from Iron to Diamond 3 by the end of Season 3. The following season I hit top 1000 (equivalent to Grandmaster today). Back then, I was just a kid who loved the game and I didn't think much of what I'd learned or how it happened.
I drifted away from serious play for years, exploring other games and interests. It wasn't until 2021 that I decided I'd commit to competitive League.
My Years Playing Professionally
When I came back, I pretty much went all-in on the professional scene:
- Winner of EBL (Balkans Premier League)earning qualification for Europe's biggest tournament outside LEC
- Competed in many European leaguesCIS LCL, Italy's PG Nationals, Balkans EBL, Arabian League and more
- Four years of professional competitive experienceacross different teams and leagues
An year prior I had started coaching and was constantly coaching players from Iron to Challenger on various platforms whenever I had an extra hour or two, accumulating the majority of my coaching experience.
During my final competitive year (2024-2025), I became obsessed with understanding the game at a deeper level. I spent 4 hours daily, 5 days a week analyzing nearly every game I played, along with a lot of professional VODs for about 9 months, with a week off here and there after Competitive Splits. This was probably excessive and definitely stressful, but it gave me a very different perspective on League of Legends as a whole.
League Pro To League Coaching
While maintaining this intense review schedule, I started coaching other professional players at my level. The feedback was consistently positive, and I began noticing that all this time I spent studying this game had allowed me to effortlesly convey information that might seem complex to explain for others, but is second nature to me.
All those hours of analysis had created a mental library of patterns and decisions that I could draw from naturally. With my already extensive coaching background, I'd also developed ways to communicate these concepts clearly to others.
Where I Am Now
As of June 2025, I've transitioned to LoL coaching full-time. Over the past few years, I've accumulated:
- 1000+ hours of coaching experience
- 300+ coaching sessions with consistently high ratings
- Experience working with players from Iron to professional level
I did indeed start at Iron 4, I have been worse than you can imagine at this game, so there won't be any judgement or anything of the like on my part, we laugh mistakes off and focus on improvement and growth while enjoying our time.
LOL Coaching - My Philosophy
League coaching—or any service that teaches you something—is, to me, divided into two main categories:
1. Practical, quick adjustments that yield short-term results—think of these as the do's and don'ts of a craft, along with the reasoning behind them: "If you slow-push instead of hard-shove here, this will happen, for this reason."
2. Mental framework changes, which come as building blocks such as "Overall priority should be adjusted from fighting uncertain fights to getting strong" or as more complex, foundational beliefs about climbing in League: "In order for you to get out of a rating, you need to increase how much autonomy YOU have in the game, not die to save your teammates."
Both are necessary—first you must have the knowledge, then you need to be able to explain it accurately and balance achieving both short and long-term progress. This is what coaching is to me.
